I'd like to purchase a 10' hard dinghy & i'd also like to know what u could recommend for the engine size? There are good reviews for the Honda 2HP at it only weights 27lbs, but then 2 HP, i think, is a bit small. Also, Tohatsu is coming out wit a brand new 3.5 HP w/c only weighs 38lbs. And those 4-6 HP weighs up to around 55lbs. I only plan to transport a maximum of 4 adults from the normal anchorage to the dock & back..
What do you think? Thanks!

I am using a 3.5 Tohatsu engine, im a great fan of it, and i like it. It's able to push a boat w/ 4 people. It's small enough for my crew to lift but its power is twice as much as the 2HP Yamaha, w/c was the previous one that i have.
And oh! Honda has been upgraded to 2.3HP in the UK because the 2HP wasn't powerful enough. And they say it's hard to handle because you really have to make sure you use it the right way up or the engine oil might spill everywhere.

as far as i know, the 3.3HP weighs the same as the 2HP motor. so GO FOR IT! i don't think u wud need much speed anyway since majority of dinghy motor trips are only spent between the boat & the marina. the area normally has reduced speed limits around 5mph so the speed over that distance will only be wasted anyway.

The Honda 2 HP is sooooo heavy & vibrates too much!! It's shaking just goes out of style. Iv tried it a few times & well... I HATED IT for those reasons.
The same goes for the 2 stroke Mercury 3.3. I think all those single cylinder engines are mere headaches.
What was recommended to me before was the old Evinrude, 2troke & 2 cylinder. That's what i have & that's what i love. But i dont think they still make them today. So i just keep on overhauling mine! It weighs not more than 30lbs becz it has no metal cover & reverse gear.

As far as i know, 2-stroke engines are being phased out already. although there are fuel-injected versions, but only a few. and they are as expensive as the 4-stroke ones. The only advantage they got over the 2-stroke would be the HP per weight.

Tohatsu already released their new 2HP & 3.5HP engines last year! And i believe Mercury & Nissan are also reselling the same engines under their own labels and they weigh 38.5lbs. Honda's 2hp is only 28lbs but i still think that Tohatsu's 3.5Hp at 38.5lbs is better.
