What are ur opinions on Gulfstar 39' Sailmaster? Would you consider buying one & sail around the world with it?

Gulfstar made lots of different boats for many years & there seems to be a significant variation in the quality of their designs. Existing owners say that they love these boats but they also say alot about what they had to do to make the boat "sail-able". Blisters, gel coat crackings (repainting), port & window leaks are the common probs experienced by the owners of these boats. I've read surveys and results say that mechanical breakdowns usually occur & that it cannot sail on anything but only on a broad reach of moderate winds!

Gulfstar 39 boats make reasonable coastal cruisers & nice liveaboards. But they're not on my list of boats that i consider as a world cruiser! Majority of its owners say that it would take massive effort for this boat to make sensse for the kind of plans that u propose (cruising around the world). that it comes along with constant stress & headaches when one should enjoy cruising instead!

it's still up 2 u though! u need to realize the possible cost & work involved in purchasing the boat.

Our family owns a Gulfstar 39 & i cannot say that it wasnt well built & that it's not capable of of taking you where you want to go. I think it's a VERY good cruising boat, only that there's no PERFECT boat for every sea. Provided that the GS 39 is well-maintained & is in good shape, then there should be no problem. it's a big ocean & it's only a matter of picking your weather.

Exactly!

I think all boats are different & sometimes, they can be equal in some ways. They can also be capable of doing whatever you want them to do.. But there are always several different choices depending on ur cruising plans. Factors such as design, materials, craftsmanship are very insignificant, and besides, there's no such thing as mediocre boats. if u want to take ur Gulfstar 39' Sailmaster across the ocean, then that's a wonderful & very wise idea.

YEah Yeah. Boats will differ in all types of weather. We've cruised with several boats already & they all had a job well done But still, some were more comfortable than the rest, but it doesn't mean they were more seaworthy or something. Again, there will always be a difference in their qualities.

ANd perhaps Gulfstar 39 stands somewhere in the middle. It also has some quality control issues & is tough to work on. But in general, it gives great comfort & is very stable in several weather. And i think, the same goes for every sailing boat. It must be kept well & be in good condition because the sea is smart. Aside from having the ideal boat for sailing, you also have 2 know which time & weather schedule to pick.
