Upon leaving your land and living aboard, how do you handle the renewal of your driver's license? And when you move for the next few years, what becomes your permanent address then? What about taxes?
Plenty of questions, i know.. Thank you thank you in advance!

Moving aboard or living in your sailing yachts could be one way of avoiding property taxes. But you can never avoid paying your income taxes no matter what. You're still living within the state borders anyway and you're subject to paying those..

if you live in a sailing boat or sailing yacht, chances are, your permanent address can become a postal box at a mail forwarding service and definitely, you're still gonna pay for your income tax, but on different basis.. if you don't want to pay some state income tax, then you need to relocate to states where there's no income tax,,

i think different states have different procedures. the best source for
that would be the tax collector's office in the state where you intend
to settle next.. because it varies from area to area...

I agree with saved_by_u here. :) If you cannot check with your state office, you could always check on the internet about your license concerns. Its best that we sail smoothly.. not only I am talking about the smoothness of the ocean waters but with the legality of your sail and trip. :) Good luck!

This is an interesting conversation. Well, I believe that sailing is a sort of escape but it never reached me as an escape in my responsibilities as a citizen.
I agree that each state has different regulations about your concern. There are coast guards in the sea and they can check your papers with you. You still need to register your boat anyway. So, you could still be a citizen of the state you are in no matter what.

I believe that there are authorities responsible for such concerns. the coast guard maybe.
