In the ancient times, boats were used to carry cargoes and for mere transportation only, how did recreational boating or sailing started?

It probably started during the 1980’s when more and more people got hooked to the slow but remarkable advancements of boat making. As early as 1982, more than 9 million boats were registered in the Coast Guard.

I think I would like to agree with you. The sea was known to be unreachable during the early years. Due to the rise of many small (powered or sail) boats, sailing became a hobby to many people.

Aside from that, I think the organization of boat-racing encouraged people to sail.

As we all know, boat racing is kinda well-organized. The numerous sailboat clubs would assert to that.

But there are more sailors who would just enjoy being on the water. Many people sail to escape from the pressure of their life and they would not want the pressure brought about by sailing.

Yeah. That may be right. But we cannot ignore the fact that sailing is making another notch higher. We race. We let others see the power of our boats.
