My wife and I are planning to sail through the Caribbean for 4 to 6months. But we have a 1 year old baby. Has anyone among you here have taken your kids w/ u whenever you're sailing? How did your sailing adventures go? Did you encounter any problems? How did their health & condition took it?

Good thing you asked because it's not that simple to sail with kids, you must always plan ahead! As for that time when we went sailing with our kids last year (i have a 3 year old & a 5yr old), as first we were scared that it might be a bit boring for them. But what we did was let them participate in our dailiy chores aboard and most of the days were also spent snorkeling, swimming, etc.. It was fun, nothing compares to that sailing vacation we had as a whole family!
P.S.: Dont forget your life jackets!

Just a couple of points.. Since you'll never know how strong the sun can be, make sure you bring sun screen protection for your baby, the one with the corresponding SPF for him/her. Use it to prevent causing your child any skin damage or sun burn.. Take their PFDs too! That's important! Keep in mind that cruising with kids is possible & really fun as long as you're very well prepared..

Here goes my very simple sailing note: Never forget to bring anti-bacterial wet wipes and liquid soaps too! They can be VERY helpful! Especially for your baby.. During emergency purposes.

Sailing with your kids can be very rewarding but you must know that planning is a must! Aside from everything else mentioned earlier, stay calm & relaxed as always and don't panic too much when the weather gets a little tough! a good harness life vest or inflatable PFDs should be part of your package.. You can also do rest stops every once in a while.. And before you even take your baby with you, i suggest you pay a visit to the pediatrician.

Hey, you guys, these are all useful and great information! we hope we could pursue with these sailing adventures within the next 4 to 6 months. and we are hoping that by then, the weather would already be suitable to take our kid out with us! All your advice are great and they just covered what i thought of regarding safety.. I know sailing won't be fun if kids would get hurt..
Thanks again!

Hi there! I am Sally. I have taken my kids when we sail too but they were not as young as your child. But I would be glad to share other points too. They were right about the sun protection and soaps to protect the baby. These could minimize allergies and tantrums. However, you must also keep in mind to bring all the other needs of your baby. If he or she still drinks bottled milk, better bring a lots of milk, enough or maybe more than according to the duration of your trip. Bring comfortable clothing too. LAstly, you can consult your child's pediatrician. The doctor sure have lots to say.
