currently, i am learning coastal navigation with my compass as a primary tool & the GPS as the secondary one. I also know what causes deviation (or the mental closing of the compass). But i'd also like to know how to make a compass card. Yesterday i thought of taking the boat & take note of the differences between the board compass & the handheld GPS. I can perhaps write all their differences every 10 degrees & the go from there.
What do you think?
Or do you know of better ways i can do it?

When magnetic fields are induced by energized electrical equipment and
wires, it can also cause deviation. It's also good to check for changes
in your compass everytime u flash up or shut down engines and radios..
And note that the GPS method can also give u an accurate card..
