I thought it would be amusing to hear about the different techniques used to mark anchor chains. I have seen a very efficient way of having cable ties every 10 meters: one for 10m and 2 for 20m, etc..

Well sailors.. how do you mark yours?

I used to draw on 3 different coloured strips of cloth tied at set intervals to designate depths.

Try placing one yellow tie at the first 10m, then two at 20m. Then add a single orange tie to mark the intervening 5. The light colors are reflective and they show up easily even when there's very poor light. The colors may fade in a few years but the codes would still be easy to read.
