we've been looking around the idea of buying a buoy mooring / moorage but we're still trying to weigh the advantages & disadvantages. it's of the same price and besides, i originally wanted the dock for working on my boat but others just installed a bunch of docks that you can tie to for less than 24 hours for free. and that pretty much negates my previous concern.
The disadvantages of the buoy are (1) it has no shore power.. well, i have solar panel and was planning on getting a generator for ac on super hot days and hot water (2) to fill water tanks i would need to tie up with others
Well, do you of other major disadvantages to the mooring field that i should consider?
Thanks guys!

how about its dinghy access? it always depends on your situation.. and be careful not to underestimate your power supply needs.. but in general, it sounds like a good option.. again, you have to be more aware of the battery issues.. because there's nothing worse than a boat on the mooring w/o a battery!

the mooring field is good.. but still, even a huge dinghy dock gets pretty crowded too.. & it could also break up.. Last fall, even though the dinghy dock was new, it begun to break up. It floats.. but it doesnt have enough flex joints in it to handle such conditions. The wood fenders were splitting too. instead, we just went to the park nearby and tied to the wall there.

For as long as you battery does not go flat, it's ok
Anyway, moorings w/ free dockside tie up is a good way to go.. And a decent solar or wind system can surely keep your batteries charged. Moorings are safe too! Since you don't have to deal wit fenders ruining your hull! You can come & go whenever you want..
