All types of Sailboats should use Navigation lights especially on conditions with low visibility. It is important to know the different lights and the message that they convey. Look at the various Navigation lights and identify what they mean. It is hard to see Sailboats at night so always be alert in order to avoid collisions.
- Arrange a watch system.
Having a watch system is very important in order for all crew members to have sufficient rest that will enable them to do the assigned tasks effectively. The conventional watch system requires periods of on - watch (four hours) and off-watch duties from midnight to midnight. Make the schedules clear to all the crew members to avoid confusion.
Night Cruising will be a challenging, fun, and exciting endeavor only if the cruising sailors will make the necessary planning and preparation. Moreover, crew members should cooperate with each other and take responsibility of the tasks assigned to them.
