Cruising Provisions

Cruising Provisions Since you spend most of your time out on the sea and due to limited resources such as food, fuel, and other culinary essentials, you need to make the most out of what you have in your galley to make meals. However, this does not mean that you cannot have sumptuous and delicious meals on the table. In this section, let’s take a look at how to make cooking in the galley efficient and come up with dishes that everyone onboard will enjoy:
  • Go for simple and easy-to-prepare dishes such as one-pot meals. With limited supplies, it is much more convenient to have meals that do not require too much preparation time. In this way, you will save on fuel and at the same time, have more time for other tasks onboard.

  • Make the most out of your galley. Have enough food storage containers. You do not really need a wide array of cooking ware. Bring only enough pots and pans and cooking utensils that will enable you to prepare the meals that you want. Keep your galley as clutter-free as possible to make cooking a lot easier.

  • Make a list of dishes that you plan to prepare for the next few days so when you are in a marina, you will know what ingredients to buy, saving you a lot of time and energy.

  • Cruising can be a pretty physically-demanding task, so you need the energy to perform your duties effectively. Make sure your dishes are nutritious, and eat several servings of fruits and vegetables everyday.

  • The sea is home to a lot of fish and seafood. Why not try catching fish, crabs, shellfish or shrimps? This will save you some money and you will be sure that what you’re getting is fresh.

  • You can get what you need in your meals in marinas. Some of them have nearby towns which sell local produce.

Cruising gives a whole new meaning to cooking and eating. You get to appreciate more of what you have and see different views as you eat and talk with other people onboard. Cruising Provisions do not have to be fancy and expensive. Be resourceful and creative with what you have. With simple meals, you and everyone aboard will have a great dining experience.
