• Types of Sailboat Racing
  It comes in many types, depending on the class of Sailboat, age range, solo or with a crew. It can also be done in coastal waters or in the ocean where it requires endurance and very experienced sailors.



• Racing Rules of Sailing or RRS
  A very important facet of this sport is understanding the recognized rules and regulations, commonly called the Racing Rules of Sailing or RRS.
  
  The International Sailing Federation or ISAF is the internationally-recognized governing body when it comes to the rules of the sport. The committees of this organization make the RRS, review them every four years, and make modifications if the situation calls for it.
  
  The Racing Rules of Sailing are divided into different parts and sections. Parts 1 - 7 cover the rules that should be followed by all participants of the event. The other division pertains to the rules for some participants or officials.
  
  Make sure to know the updated Racing Rules of Sailing. Considering that all participants will follow the rules, these RRS will ensure that orderliness will be maintained throughout the race. Moreover, the rules will come into play in the racecourse, especially if you find yourself in close quarters. You will be able to determine what your competitors will do in certain situations such as when boats come near each other.



• Sailing Instructions
  Aside from the Racing Rules, Sailboat Racing also comes with a set of instructions. In general, this set provides relevant information such as the rules of the competition, the specific equipment required on board, and the description of the course.
  
  Do not take the Sailing Instructions for granted. Understand them so you will know what to expect in the course. This will also boost your confidence and will make you ready every time you participate in a regatta.
