• Make sure that the Sailboat is in good shape.


• Less friction between the boat's Hull and the surrounding water will result to better performance. Thus, proper Hull preparation is very crucial. This will make your Sailboat go faster. If your boat is not maintained and properly taken cared of, it will take a lot of time and money in order to have a smooth or better Hull.
• Make a thorough inspection of the Mast and Rig. It is important to clean them first and then check if there are areas that need to be repaired.
• Clean and inspect the Deck. Look for signs of wear and tear. Run repairs when necessary.

• You should also pay attention to other equipment such as your Navigation Tools and Communication Devices. Check if they are working properly. You will be in a bad situation if you realize that one of your devices is not working at the time when you really need it.


• Have the necessary Safety Tools and Equipment and First Aid Kit onboard. A basic First Aid training is important. In case you need immediate assistance, make sure you know how to use or send Distress Signals properly.


• The sailor should also be well-prepared and geared up for the action in the racecourse. Life Jackets, protective eyewear, sunscreen, gloves, hats, rigging knives, etc. are some of the important equipment needed afloat.
