Sailing Safety - Components of a First Aid Kit
Having knowledge and training on the basics of First Aid is necessary so injuries and other health concerns will be dealt with properly. Naturally, you also need a First Aid Kit. This is another piece of Safety Tools and Equipment that should not be taken for granted. Remember that you can customize the supplies or items in a First Aid Kit to suit your health needs.
A typical First Aid Kit has the following items:
Supplies
- adhesive tape
- bandages
- elastic support bandages (for knees and ankles)
- gauze swabs
- non-adhesive dressings
- sterile alcohol wipes
- sunscreen
- petroleum jelly
- betadine solution
- antiseptic
- thermometer
- tweezers
- scissors
- plasters
- different sizes of safety pins
Over-the-Counter drugs
Bring along enough medications to help ease pain, reduce swelling, etc.
- Antibiotic cream/ointment
- Aspirin
- Anti-bacterial lotion/cream
- Laxative
- Medication for diarrhea
