Sailboat Parts - Hull
This refers to the body or frame of the Sailboat. Its primary purpose is to keep water from entering the boat. In this section, we will also include other Sailboat Parts which are found in the Hull.
- Hull - body of the Sailboat
- Bow - forward part / front of the Sailboat
- Centerboard - makes the boat more stable, helps in steering, and keeps the boat from moving sideways; often used by smaller Sailboats; adjustable and can be removed for downwind sailing
- Keel - a large beam or foil which is often fixed, located under the Hull; gives the Sailboat greater stability and prevents the vessel from moving sideways when the wind is coming from the side
- Stern - back part of the Sailboat
- Rudder - a movable vertical flap or board in the center of the back edge of the boat; used to steer the vessel or control its direction
- Tiller - a bar used to control the angle of the Rudder
- Transom - flat surface at the rear side of the vessel
These are the parts of a typical Hull. Take note that there are different types of Hulls, and they may have more parts and features.
