Young Sailor Enthusiast Hopes to Cross Atlantic
WEDNESDAY, 27 SEPTEMBER 2006
Michael Perham, a young sailor enthusiast from Potters Bar hope to become the youngest person to cross the Atlantic single handed in November. The fourteen year old was going to do a book launch for the Royal Yachting Association who also pledged a support for Michael but was earlier withdrawn by the said association.
RYA decided they couldn’t support Michael for using a category B vessel which they say is not suitable for racing in the ocean. "The vessel didn't meet our safety requirements", a RYA spokeswoman added.
Michael will be accompanied by his father Peter on the 3,500-mile crossing in Atlantic which will start on November 18. Up to now, the father and son are still keen to hear from the sponsors.
