Stamm Still Leads Velux 5 Oceans Race

Bernard Stamm from Germany has already reached the Kerguelen Islands, leading the Velux 5 Oceans Race fleet by 960 miles.
Stamm has reported damage in his halyard which broke during the early part of the race. Battens in his mainsail were also broken; on of which got caught in the leeward backstay. Meanwhile, Mike Golding, who is currently on second place, is on his way to South Africa using a broken mast. Kojiro Shiraishi follows Golding while Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, Unai Basurko, and Grant Dalton are the three back markers of the race.
The Velux 5 Oceans Race is the toughest and longest solo race that started in Bilbao, Spain in October 22. The leaders of the race are expected to reach Australia in December.
