470 Internationale Launches New Support Program
WEDNESDAY, 20 DECEMBER 2006
The 470 Internationale has launched their newest Sailors' Support Programme - the 2008 Olympic Pathway Solidarity Grant.
The new programme intends to support 470 sailors who have ambitions and Olympic-level abilities but are hindered by infrastructural and financial obstacles to qualify for the Olympics. The programme covers the 470 World Championships in Cascais, Portugal in 2007 and in Melbourne, Australia in 2008. The sailors, however, should not have participated in the 470 World Championships in 2005 and 2006.
Providing six boats from Nautivela, a licensed builder, for the 470 World Championships in 2007 is their first step in the programme. In this way, sailors will be given the opportunity to participate using the best available equipment and improve their chances to qualify for the Olympic Games in Beijing 2008.
