Dalton, Knox-Johnston, Basurko Still on Velux 5

TUESDAY, 19 DECEMBER 2006

Sir Robin Knox-Johnston moves into third place as Graham Dalton decides to stop by Kerguelen Islands to refuel and repair his boat. Unai Basurko, meanwhile, has already entered the Indian Ocean.

All three of them have faced difficult storm conditions that resulted to damages in their boats. The two British skippers, Alex Thomson and Mike Golding, have already retreated from the race. They are in Fremantle to welcome Knox-Johnston and to support Bernard Stamm and Kojiro Shiraishi, the top two leaders of the Velux 5 Oceans Race.

Presently, Stamm and Kojiro are preparing for the next leg of the race which is the longest and toughest solo race in the world. Stamm's boat has been lifted off the water for inspection and repair. Kojiro, on the other hand, decided not to remove the boat out of the water. Instead, Kojiro dove under the boat for inspection and damage assessment.
