Swiss skipper Bernard Stamm is still the leader of the fleet of yachtsmen competing for the Velux 5 Oceans Race, the longest and toughest solo race around the world.
Stamm has been sailing over 400 miles a day at an average speed of over 17 knots. Stamm claims, however, that he is sailing "conservatively" to protect the boat and for him race at 25 knots if he was pushing. Stamm's yacht, an Open 60 Cheminees Poujoulat, is now racing through Iceberg Alley in the Southern Ocean beyond New Zealand.
Meanwhile, Sir Robin Knox-Johnston and Unai Basurko are 44 miles away from each other. Knox-Johnston, sailing on his boat Saga Insurance, hopes to undertake Basurko on his boat Pakea. Graham Dalton is in third place with his yacht A Southern Man - AGD.
