74 Nations Enter First Phase of World Championship

Seventy-four nations have already applied for entry at the 2007 ISAF Sailing World Championships to be held at Cascais, Portugal from June 28 to July 13.
Armenia, Egypt, Kuwait, the Philippines, and Tahiti are among the 74 nations that have successfully entered the first phase of the World Championships. All in all, there are 432 boats and 649 sailors. ISAF President Goran Petersson said that beating the number of nations that participated at Cadiz four years ago is a "great achievement."
Each of the ISAF Member National Authority (MNA) can apply for one Priority Place in each of the 11 Olympic events included in the World Championships. The next phase of the entry process for the World Championships is already in progress. Additional places have already been distributed while applications for commission places are now being accepted.
