Young Sailor Receives National Sportsmanship Award
WEDNESDAY, 21 MARCH 2007
Fourteen-year old J.D. Reddaway of Suwanee, Georgia is this year's recipient of the W. Van Alan Clark Jr. Trophy, a National Sportsmanship award given by US Sailing. He is the youngest-ever recipient of the trophy in its 20-year history.
Reddaway was chosen for his "sportsmanship behavior" during the Orange Bowl Junior Olympic Sailing Festival last December. While competing in the 85-boat Optimist Red Fleet, another sailor's boat capsized. With no immediate assistance available, Reddaway swam to help his co-competitor.
US Sailing presented the award last Saturday at the Florida Yacht Club in Jacksonville. For more information, visit www.ussailing.org.
