British Yachtsman to Break New World Record

MONDAY, 30 APRIL 2007

British yachtsman Tony Bullimore, 68, will be attempting to break the around-the-world solo sailing record come Tuesday.

Bullimore will be setting off from the city of Hobart in Tasmania, Australia. Bullimore, with his 31-metre catamaran, the Doha 2006, will attempt to circumnavigate the world solo in 70 days. The route from Tasmania will lead Bullimore to the Southern Ocean, to Cape Horn, the South American coast, across the Equator, and to the Cape of Good Hope.

Ellen Macarthur holds the current world record. Macarthur has circumnavigated the world in 2005 in 71 days, 14 hours, 18 minutes, and 33 seconds.
