Two hundred twenty three of the world's top young sailors from around 50 nations have registered to compete at the 2007 Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championship set on July 12-21 at the Portsmouth Olympic Harbour.
A big turnout of sailors from North, Central and South America have registered for the championships, as well as from Asian countries like India, Japan, Korea and Singapore. Seventeen sailors from nine countries have assistance coming from the ISAF Athlete Participation Programme. The programme made possible the inclusion of sailors from St. Lucia and Paraguay, who will be competing in the annual Youth Sailing World Championships for the first time.
"Once again the Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championships has proven itself the premier event for youth sailing and it will take on a special significance in ISAF's Centenary year. I am thrilled to see St. Lucia and Paraguay enter the event for the first time ever - it just hoes to show that, with the help of the APP and our sponsors Volvo, the spread and appeal of the Championships continues to grow." Fiona Kidd, chair of the ISAF Youth World Championship Sub-Committee.
