Prince Philip's Sea Racer Restored
WEDNESDAY, 30 MAY 2007
Bloodhound, the 63-feet vessel which was a favorite of Prince Philip, has been restored to her former glory.
About a million pounds has been spent to restore the vessel. Four years ago, yacht surveyor Tony McGrail bought the vessel, and then undertook the restoration project. McGrail plans to sell Bloodhound for 1.5 million pounds. However, McGrail hopes that the nation will buy the vessel instead of a private buyer, and that Prince Phillip will be able to sail the vessel again.
Bloodhound was built in 1936, and was bought by the Royal Family in 1962 for racing and for cruising. In 1969, the Royal Family sold the vessel. Bloodhound is now moored in Poole, Dorset. "She is probably the most famous ocean racer existing and won countless races," McGrail said. "Everything they ever said about her is true - she almost sails herself. But reluctantly I am selling her."
