The Game Sounded Well at the Sail Parry Sound
SATURDAY, 30 JUNE 2007
It was a fun-filled and very buoyant sailing event that happened last Saturday, June 23, 2007, during the 2007 Albacore Ontario Championships, which was organized and hosted by the Sail Parry Sound.
Twenty-four boats registered for the said event with six of them from Maryland, one from California, five from Ottawa, and the rest from Toronto.
According to Regatta Chairman Larry Woolner, the Albacore Ontario Championships was a test for the new regatta facility of the Sail Parry Sound. And indeed, the Sail Parry Sound was successful in proving their worth as the Albacore International President, Peter Duncan, recommended Sail Parry Sound to be the location of the next Albacore Worlds event. Furthermore, Sandy Swiatlowski, Albacore Rear Commodore, also showed her interest in holding the Canadian Championships at Sail Parry Sound on September 2008.
The Albacore is constructed of fiberglass laminate or 15 feet long moulded plywood. It has a 5-foot beam and a 4’2” centerboard draft.
At the end of the event, Nauti-Girl team composed of Ann White and Jean Paul Bureaud was announced as the 2007 Ontario Albacore Champion. They took home the silver cup for the Ontario Albacore Championship plus the Bill Beatty Trophy by Sail Parry Sound. Falling on second place was the Leslie Split Swallow team with Allan Measor and Richard Piercey. He Hydrophilliac composed of Raines Koby and Abby MacInnes was announced the third placer.
