49er World Championship 2008

TUESDAY, 8 JANUARY 2008

With one day of racing left in Sorrento, Australians Nathan Outteridge and Ben Austin, and world champions Stevie Morrison and Ben Rhodes, tie for the lead in the 49er World Championship.

The two teams are on equal points after 16 completed races, with the Australians leading on countback.

Meanwhile, Athens silver medalists Rodion LUKA and George Leonchuk of Ukraine are currently in third place, but only one point off the lead. The winner is likely from the top three.

The next placers, 11 points behind the three, are brothers Pietro and Gianfranco Sibello from Italy. In sixth place are Athens gold medalists Iker Martinez and Xavi Fernandez of Spain.

The top 10 from the 25 crews in the gold fleet series will sail off for the championship in the Medal Race, worth double points, which was scheduled 15:00 today.
