Prince Philip Cup Postponed due to Strong Winds
FRIDAY, 11 JANUARY 2008
A windstorm peaking at 65 knots on Hobart's Derwent River stopped the races today in the Prince Philip Cup, the Australian championship for International Dragon class yachts.
Race officials of the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania held all boats ashore as hot northerlies stirred up the river, with an average of 40 knots on the mid-river course area, but getting stronger at 65 knots further downstream.
The race five has been postponed until tomorrow, which will resume 11 a.m., to be followed by race six as a back-to-back race.
Race seven, which was scheduled to start on Sunday, has also been brought forward to 11 a.m.
