Twelve of the 2007's most inspiring young sailors received their celebrated Regional Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Young Sailor of the Year Awards last January 12 at the Collins Stewart London Boat Show. Presented by Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, these awards recognize the outstanding achievements of youth sailors throughout the country.
The winners reveled in an action-packed VIP day at the show, which included pitching their skills against each other on the Marine Leisure Association's Deck Games Stand and a lunch and tour onboard HMS Exeter.
This year's National Raymarine Young Sailor of the Year went to 12-year-old Laurence Greenough, RYA South West Regional Winner. Tom Gillard, the first RYA Team GBR sailor to win the 420 European Championships in Medembelik, was also selected as National Raymarine Young Sailor of the Year.
RYA Regional Young Sailor of the Year winners are voted for by RYA affiliated sailing clubs. These young sailors have made a significant impact on youth sailing, ranging from gold medal winning achievements and overcoming adversity, to the huge amount of hard work and effort they give back to their clubs.
