The Royal Bank of Scotland Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta will be held from the 24th to the 31st of August. Now on its 164th year, the eight-day event will hold a four-day Dinghy Race at Dittisham, a whole day Passage Race from Brixham to Dartmouth, and a four-day Yacht and Keelboat Race in Start Bay.
This year's event will not only feature races for yachts, dinghies, keel boats, and sports boats. Some of the events that will happen simultaneously with the races are children's competitions, tennis tournament, trolley and road races, and a pavement artists' competition. Air and fireworks displays will also bring delight to children and families attending the regatta. A barbecue will be held on the 29th after the final race. Awarding and prize-giving will be held on the 2nd of September at the Royal Dart Yacht Club.
The Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta is considered as one of the best regattas in Britain due to the visit made by Queen Victoria in 1856 to the event together with Prince Albert and the Prince of Wales, thus bestowing the regatta with the title 'Royal'.
